How it works
Every step, what it costs, and how long it takes.
Nobody explains this part properly, which is why people start and then stall. Here is the whole thing in order, with the money and the timing attached.
Phase one
Getting licensed. This part is yours.
Every state runs its own process, but the shape is the same everywhere: a course, an exam, fingerprints, and an application. You pay for all of it before you earn anything.
1. The pre-licensing course
An online course you work through at your own pace. Most states require somewhere between 20 and 40 hours, and the course locks each chapter until you pass its quiz, so it can't be skimmed. Most people take two to four weeks around a full-time job.
You choose the provider. We'll tell you which ones our agents have actually used rather than sending you to whoever pays a referral fee.
2. Booking and sitting the exam
Booked through your state's testing vendor and sat in person at a testing centre. Bring government photo ID. You usually get your result the same day.
If you fail, you rebook and sit it again. It happens to plenty of people and it is not the end of anything. It costs you the exam fee a second time and a bit of pride.
3. Fingerprints and background check
An appointment you book yourself with the vendor your state uses. One visit. Some states run this before the application, some after.
4. The licence application
Filed with your state after you pass. Once it is approved you are issued a National Producer Number, and at that point you are a licensed agent.
5. Contracting with Faldex
Carrier appointments, errors and omissions cover, and the paperwork that lets you actually write business. About a week, mostly waiting on carriers rather than on you.
What phase one costs
National ranges, plus Arizona as a worked example so you can see a real total rather than a spread.
| Item | Range across states | Arizona |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-licensing course | $50 to $400 | about $125 |
| State exam | $29 to $98 | $38 |
| Fingerprints | $30 to $50 | $42 |
| Licence application | $10 to $225 | $120 |
| Typical all-in | $250 to $500 | about $325 |
Figures checked September 2026. Arizona amounts are taken from the state department and its testing vendor. The ranges are indicative. State fees change, so confirm current amounts with your own state insurance department before you rely on them. Errors and omissions cover, usually around $25 to $50 a month for a life-only agent, and the cost of leads are separate and ongoing.
Phase two
Launching. This part is ours.
The licence gets you allowed to sell. It does not teach you to sell. This is the part most people never get, and it is the reason most new agents quit inside a year.
- 01
Onboarding
Product training, how a final expense policy actually works, who it fits, and how it pays out. Then the shape of an appointment start to finish.
Before you dial - 02
Five shadow calls
You listen to five real calls before you make one. You hear the opening, the questions, the objections, and what a sale actually sounds like. Every agent does this, no exceptions.
Every agent - 03
Your first calls, supported
You dial, someone experienced is on the line. We keep going until you have your first sale, and we treat that as our job as much as yours.
Daily contact, first 30 days - 04
Coaching that does not stop
Review what worked, fix what did not. Carriers, products and objections keep changing, so this is not a course you finish.
Ongoing

Things you should know
Faldex Financial LLC contracts with independent agents. This is an independent contractor opportunity, not employment, and there is no salary, no benefits, and no guaranteed income. Agents are paid commission on policies that are issued and paid, and commissions are subject to chargeback if a policy lapses early. Agents are responsible for their own licensing costs, errors and omissions coverage, taxes, and business expenses, including the cost of leads. Income depends on individual effort, licensing status, and carrier appointment, and results vary. Nothing on this page is an offer of employment or a promise of earnings. Opportunity availability varies by state and by carrier. Licensing fees and requirements are set by each state and change over time; confirm current figures with your state insurance department before relying on them.
